Activism is ESSENTIAL to eliminate Stigma!
STIGMA – What is it?
It’s a mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, quality or person.
It’s a mark of shame or discredit.
In society, stigma involves negative attitudes or discrimination against someone based on a distinguishing characteristic such as a mental illness, health condition or disability.
Social stigmas can be related to other characteristics, including gender, sexuality, race, religion and culture.
It can also be the stain bore by the stigma of cowrdice.
Whichever definition alligns with you, they are all alive and well in society.
In Australia, we are a little more unique; we have the complex Tall Poppy Syndrome takes the term ‘stigma’ to a whole new level.
I invite you to listen to my interview with the fabulous Julie Gillespie eMBA MHFA of Conversations with Julie.
Together we discuss the following topic:
Activism is Essential to Eliminate Stigma
Recently a state education department bureaucracy enforced its draconian Conflict of Interest Declaration Form and Management Plan on their employees to sign off using 1:1 interviews.
This requires employees to disclose: who their partners are, where their children go to school, your assets and those of your partner and dependents and personal effects, motor vehicles, superannuation if they’ve got investments, shares, debentures, a company, a partnership, a trust, all yours and your partner’s bank accounts, other sources of income, what political associations they are registered with, the suburb of your property and your partner and your dependents, who is the beneficiary, name of the creditor, the liability amount etc. etc. and the list goes on and on.
Our purpose of this conversation is to show that being an activist has nothing to do with anger, it’s not about blaming or arguing.
How would you manage being presented with this Conflict of Interest Disclosure in your workplace?
How can we work towards eliminating STIGMA
We hope you enjoy and we look forward to viewing your comments.
